TAS: Wind provides 50 per cent of island's power needs

KING ISLAND, Tas, Feb 26 AAP - The powerful westerly winds that buffet Tasmania's remote
King Island are being harnessed to meet 50 per cent of the Bass Strait community's energy
needs.
Designed to reduce the island's dependency on diesel fuel for power, stage two of the
$6.85 million Huxley Hill wind farm was opened today by federal Environment Minister David
Kemp.
