Lexington, Ky., is a long way from Madison Square Garden, and three years can be a long time in college basketball, but Villanova is using this year's Big East tournament to revive memories of its greatest triumph. Mark Plansky, the lone remaining player from the Wildcats' 1985 team that won the NCAA championship in Lexington, is leading Villanova's charge back to prominence. Plansky, a 6-foot-7 senior forward, scored 25 points Saturday as Villanova advanced to the Big East championship game with a 72-69 upset of Pittsburgh, the Big East's regular-season titlist.
