SA: Protesters don't care if they resort to violence: Rann

South Australian Premier MIKE RANN says refugee advocates who engage in violence atthe Baxter immigration detention centre this weekend don't really care about the detainees.

Mr RANN says he has grave concerns about a possible outbreak of violence at the centre,where hundreds of protesters are expected to converge for a mass Easter rally.

A similar rally at the Woomera detention centre last year resulted in the escape of50 detainees, aided by protesters who tore down perimeter fences.

Several police officers were injured.

Meanwhile, the South Australian Council of Civil Liberties will send a neutral observerto this weekend's protest.

Council chairman STEPHEN KENNY says he will watch the demonstration as part of thecouncil's role to defend, promote and monitor civil liberties and human rights.
